Accidents and Incidents
Statement by the Skipper, Mr. J. W. Chaney
On the 4th of November 1930, we sailed from our home port of Milford Haven. We were sailing towards our usual fishing grounds off the Irish coast. We arrived back in Milford with a [catch] of fish on the 8th of the same month.
At about 7.15 a.m. on the 7th, we were off the Irish coast near the town of Queenstown, when we sustained a breakdown of the vessel's main engine pumps, necessitating the ship to seek assistance. The Milford trawler 'Duncan McRae' was fishing in the area. We asked her Skipper if he would come alongside, pass our warps across and tow the 'Aventure' back to Milford.
This what happened and we arrived back at Milford on the 8th, as stated.
