VESSEL "ARRESTED" AFTER COMPLAINT BY BOATMAN

A dredging company hopper was "arrested" at Milford Haven this week after a complaint from a local boat owner.

Mr. Guiseppe Antoniazzi, of Mount Pleasant, Milford Haven, alleged that the hopper 'Delta' owned by the Westminster Dredging Company, at present contracted to the Amoco Jetty project, collided with his boat the Merdeka, at 1 a.m. on June 3rd, while it was on its mooring off Hakin Point.

................

Mr. Antoniazzi, married, with three daughters and a son, relies on the boat for his living as a contract diver and fisherman.

"I haven't as yet had a proper estimate of the damage, but at the moment it means a complete new bow to the boat and you could assess the damage at approximately £1,800."

.................

The Merdeka, approximately a twenty-five ton boat, is leaking so badly at her mooring in Milford docks, that Mr. Antoniazzi and his mechanic Mr. John Taylor of Westaway Drive, Hakin, are kept busy each day pumping the water out.  "We use a machine-driven pump and are pumping nearly 400 gallons of water a day out of the boat," he said, adding, "This virtually puts me out  of work, until repairs are effected, and these could take between four or five weeks."
