Accidents and Incidents

 Skipper's statement, dated 20th April 1903:

We left the port of Milford Haven on the 13th April 1903.  We were going to the fishing grounds off Lundy Island ( Bristol Channel ).  We shot our fishing gear at 2 p.m. on the 15th of the same month.  The weather conditions were not very good, with a strong breeze from the West-South-West, and owing to the wind increasing and veering round to the North-West, it started blowing very heavy with high seas running.

I gave orders to shorten sail and to get the fishing trawl up.  Whilst we were engaged in this work the time of day  was around five or six o' clock a.m., when our fishing bridles parted.  We returned to Milford with some fish on board, and arrived on the 20th April 1903.

Skipper H. Burgess.
