 Accidents and Incidents

From an unknown local newspaper of c.Thursday 6th April 1944:

An action of local interest came before Mr. Justice Pilcher in the Admiralty Division of the High Court in London on 29th March, when a claim was made by the owners, master and crew of the steam trawler "Bellerophon" against the steam trawler "Dandolo", in respect of salvage services performed on the 16th November 1942.  The "Bellerophon" is owned by Messrs. Consolidated Fisheries Ltd., Swansea, and the "Dandolo" by Messrs. Milford Fisheries, Milford Haven.

The services were performed off the Old Head of Kinsale, south west Ireland, where it was claimed the "Dandolo" was disabled in very heavy weather through the failing of her propeller, and was picked up by "Bellerophon" and towed into Kinsale.

His Lordship made an award of £100 in favour of the Plaintiffs, and judgement for the sum was entered accordingly, with costs.  The solicitors for the successful Plaintiffs were Messrs. Price and Kelway.

From the West Wales Guardian of Friday 19th October 1945:

Two well-known Milford skippers, John Binham, Yorke Street, and Charlie Thomas, Torrington House, Great North Road, met with with painful accidents at sea this week.  Skipper Binham on the "Southerness" (Messrs. Carter) twisted to avoid spray and hurt his back.  Skipper Thomas, working on the trawler "Dandolo" (Milford Fisheries) was struck in the abdomen by a trawl board.

From the West Wales Guardian of Friday 10th October 1948:

In the fishing doldrums at the moment, Milford is seething with rumours about trawler sales, but owners who have seen these vicissitudes before are not unduly alarmed about the situation.  Even so, several of them are looking further afield, and Iceland and Spanish fishing are likely to figure prominently in the port's activities during the next 12 months.

     ................

Messrs. F. Uglow and Son have sold the Dandolo, and both he and Mr. Carter have intimated that others of their trawlers are likely to be sold.
